MONITORING OF INSTRUCTORS
Now that we are only offering Ofqual and SQA regulated qualifications as an Approved Centre of First Aid Awards, it has been necessary to revise our Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) procedures to meet the requirements of those regulatory bodies. In particular, we have revised the following aspects of our QA activities:
- Annual Monitoring of all Instructors.
- Examination of course paperwork (for Internal Verification and Moderation of Assessment purposes).
Annual Monitoring of all Instructors
As an Approved Centre, we must ensure that every Instructor is monitored at least annually. We feel the easiest way to do this is on a calendar year basis. So you will need to be monitored at least once in 2014 and then again in 2015 and so on. If you attend an Instructor Update course with ourselves during the calendar year we will not require a monitoring report in that year as the course includes monitoring.
Instructors can organise their own monitoring or request us to arrange this.
If you wish to arrange this yourself then you may ask a suitably qualified associate or use the Instructor/Assessor Finder feature in Nucoplus to send a message to all Instructors in your area to locate a willing monitor (see links below). Any fees or reciprocal arrangements agreed for this service will be between yourself and the monitor and we can take no responsibility over this.
If you wish us to arrange monitoring for you, then we can do so for a fee of £125+VAT. This fee covers a payment of £100 to the appointed Monitor and a £25 administration fee.
The Monitor must be a qualified Instructor in the subject being monitored and independent in that he/she is not directly involved with the course being monitored. From 1st October 2015 Monitors must also possess a formal IQA qualification or have attended CPD training in IQA (See note below).
The monitoring exercise must be undertaken in an honest and professional manner and should cover at least half a day which includes the final assessment process. We have designed a monitoring report template, with guidance notes, for completion by the monitor. This is available in our document download area (see links below). On completion, the Monitor should discuss his/her observations with the Instructor in private and both should then sign the report. The Monitor will provide a copy of his/her written report to the Instructor and a copy for Nuco Training for retention in the Instructor's portfolio for FAA audit purposes.
We are starting this process from the 1st January 2014 and will, therefore, expect your first report back before 31st December 2014. We will issue reminders towards the end of the year, but it is the Instructors' responsibility to ensure that monitoring is completed. Failure to provide annual monitoring reports could result in the Instructor being suspended from delivering FAA qualifications until this is received.
