PAEDIATRIC FIRST AID
The Department of Education has reviewed the regulations in respect of Childcare.
Please see Question 7 on Page 9 of the attached
Document for full details.
This may affect those of you who run Paediatric First Aid courses.
Paediatric First Aid training has always been a controversial area for training providers. In many areas of the UK, providers need to seek approval from the local authority which has proved extremely difficult for many. In fact many Local Authorities have ‘closed the door’ on training providers.
We believe this review will make it clearer and create a level playing field for all, particularly with the removal of the need for local authority approval.
The Department of Education has produced a new Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage which sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five. This was published in March 2014 and effective from September 1st 2014.
Please see Pages 21 and 26 of the attached
Document.
There are areas of concern for us within this new Framework and it is being addressed with the relevant regulatory and trade bodies.
As it stands, the new Level 3 Paediatric First Aid qualification will be launched on September 1st as a 2-day course. However, this could change to a 3-day course dependent on responses from the appropriate regulatory bodies and interested parties within the industry!
In addition, we are hoping that we can get approval for the 1-day Paediatric qualification to be set at
Level 3 as the 2-day course will be.
We will update you with progress on all of the above.
