FIRST AID TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

Further to our previous Bulletin concerning HSE's new guidelines, we would like to clarify and hopefully allay any concerns you may have on the qualifications that you will need to teach First Aid in the future.

With effect from 1st October 2015, in addition to your Nuco Training Instructor qualification, you will also need a national teaching qualification and a national assessing qualification. We have been including these qualifications on our Instructor courses for some time, so if you have attended our 5-day course recently, you will have achieved a Level 3 PTLLS qualification and a Level 3 Assessing qualification. These will enable you to continue teaching after 1st October 2015.

If you have no teaching or assessing qualifications, we will be running 2-day Fast-Track courses throughout 2014 and 2015 for the new Level 3 Award in Education and Training. This course is only available to Instructors, who originally attended a Nuco Instructor training course and will provide you with both the teaching and assessing qualifications. Full details will follow soon.

If you have achieved a Level 3 PTLLS qualification only, we will be putting on a 1-day Workshop for the Assessor's Award in 2014 and 2015. Again, full details will follow.

The important point is that, for the moment ALL Instructors can continue training as normal, whether you have teaching or assessing qualifications or not.

If you need to achieve the teaching and/or assessing qualifications, you need to be working towards this by the end of 2014 at the latest, but must have achieved them by 1st October 2015, if you wish to continue teaching First Aid.
